Gumboot Friday- Jasmine&I

Hello there, today is November 4th also known as Gumboot Friday. TWP 8, TWP 4 and TWP 6 were partnered up with someone from a different class. My partner was Jasmine, and we learnt 2 of the five ways to connect, it is to take notice and connect. Surprisingly on fact Jasmine and I learnt is that, New Zealand has one of the highest rate of youth suicide. Gumboot Friday is a fundraiser for children and young adults under the age of 25 to have someone to talk to about their mental health. The maker/founder of the “Gumboot Friday” is Mike King and he also suffered from Mental Health, so he came up with Gumboot Friday.

What are Double Glazed Windows

Ki Ora

This term TWP (my class space) we have been looking at the different process’s of how building were made and one of the parts were double glazed windows.

Today/this term my group and I worked Double Glazed windows and what it does for us. While doing this I found out a lot of new things and found out a lot of difficult things. One of the harder things were doing the references because it was a whole new thing for me.

Do you know what triple glazed windows are, and if you don’t find out?

Something I learnt was how to do the references because it was very confusing.

Here is my work!

Samoan Language day / Umu day

Talofa Lava,

This week/Friday for Samoan Language week we made a Samoan Umu also known as a earth oven. An Umu is a traditional way/method of cook food, known with the people of Pacific Islands. We also learnt that an umu mostly uses a type of energy called “Thermal Energy”. We started our day of with a normal prayer then our classes went down to our flag pole with the Samoan Flag on it and took some photo’s, then we played a super competitive game of Kilikiti. Kilikiti is the Samoan version of cricket.

Then it was morning tea, after that the girls and boys is classes split up and the girls did a Samoan dance ( Siva Samoan Dance) ment for females and the boys did a fire  (Siva afi )or something dance, we did it about 7 times then we did some activity’s in this Samoan booklet.

Pepeha art

(Click here is you haven’t read)

Today we had another art day for this art day we had to work with pastels.

First we got an A4 piece of paper and then think of a mountain that we had been to and a beach/ocean or river, I choose Maungrei because I would always go on walks there during quarantine and my beach was Maraetai , I choose this beach because we when there once and we met this boy and he somehow know my uncle who was there with us.

After that we drew an outline shape of a mountain and in there a river, then go over it with a vivid.        Then we choose two pastels one light shade and the other one a dark shade,  I choose pink and coloured the mountain with those two colours and for the ocean I did green, and for the background we had to choose 3 colours and make it like a gradient I chose Red, Orange and Yellow.

Here it is!

The Feast day of Mary’s Annunciation

You may wonder “what is the Feast Day of the Annunciation”

Well the Feast Day of the Annunciation is the day that and Angel came to Mary and told her she was going to be the mother of the son of God and Mary said “Yes” to being the mother of Jesus. On the 25 March it was the Feast Day of the Annunciation and my school celebrated it by going t the church and we sung a few songs and did 10 Hail Mary’s.

It is important because it is one of the major events in Jesus and Mary’s life, around the world at the same time all Catholic’s and Christian’s pray at the same time and Pope Francis Organised a special prayer for the war between Ukraine and Russia to stop!
